We have been asked many times "What good can you do? The problem with addictions... to drugs... sex... food whatever is huge!"
It's true the problem is huge... let me share with you a story that is at the heart of our ministry... It goes something like this:
While walking down the beach, a man saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it in the ocean. As he came closer, he saw thousands of starfish the tide had thrown onto the beach. Unable to return to the ocean during low tide, the starfish were dying. He observed a young boy picking up the starfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean. After watching the seemingly futile effort, the observer said, "There must be thousands of starfish on this beach. It would be impossible for you to save all of them. There are simply too many. You can't possibly save enough to make a difference. The young boy smiled as he picked up another starfish and tossed it back into the ocean. "I don't know mister... it made a difference to that one," he replied.
We believe that every person that God sets in front of us is important...they represent a family in pain... a child in need of a parent... a mother longing for her child to be restored... a husband in despair... it's true we may not be able to save them all but the one in front of us, now that's a different story. Also, we have been doing an outreach ministry in Thailand with Rahab Ministries. The ministry involves helping children who have been sold into the growing sex trade industry in Thailand.
